Ephesians 4:2-3 (NIV)
Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
This word has been very much on my heart. The different translations bring out the thought of the need of effort, this kind of living does not come by itself – “Bearing with one another in love [There will always be someone who needs to be loved], make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (NIV)
“Show to one another the patients of love [There will always be a need for patients]. Be earnest and maintain the unity of which the Spirit is the Author, linked together by the chain of God’s peace.” (Way.)
These words do not suggest that we shall easily guard this precious thing, the vital unity of love. But if we are earnest about it, there is nothing to fear, for this, and nothing less, is the will of God concerning us.
