Joshua 3:4 (NIV)
“Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.”
Did you ever notice this verse in any special way? As each new day begins it is true to say, I have not passed this way before; joy that I never met before will meet me today, surprises are awaiting to delight me. But other new things will meet us as well: new temptations, or old ones with new faces, new difficulties, too, perhaps new trials. We have not met any of them before, but look at verse 11, “See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go ahead of you.” (Joshua 3:11 NIV) That was enough to make everything right then. It is enough to make everything right now. “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:15, 14 NIV) Strength and peace are in that kind of rest.
You have never been this way before. This is a new day for you, but He who loves you meets you and at the gate of the day, and at the gate of a new month, and He says, Fear not, the Lord will give you strength: the Lord will bless you with peace.
