Rest in the Storm – Word of the Week

Edition #40

week 40

Mark 4:37-38
“And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him,
“Teacher, of You not care that we are perishing?”

As a believer, you can stay in God’s rest, even in the middle of a storm.

First Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side” (v. 35), which was the direction God wanted him to go. They left the multitude to cross the sea, and as a furious storm began to blow against them and waves were filling the boat with water, Jesus was asleep on a cushion.

Why wasn’t Jesus concerned? Was it because he was the Son of God and he had it easier than we do? I used to think that, but the Bible says Jesus was tempted just as we are.

This was no little storm; it had career fishermen shaking in their sandals, so things must have been bad. I’m sure Jesus was tempted to be afraid, but he was still at peace. Why? Because he knew where God had told him to go. He knew that crossing the sea was the direction God had for him, and trusted that was where they were going.

As you keep your destiny and God’s promises at the forefront of your mind, you can stay at rest, even in the worst storms. What are you dealing with today? What does God’s Word promise about that situation? Hang on to the peace that trusting in his promises provides!

This word of the week was brought to you from Devoted with Leon.
